Serengeti 7000SS 5304J Vermilion

Sunglasses

Unique, early Serengeti 7000SS Vermillion sunglasses feature a black matte metal frame and incredible red tint lenses by Corning Optics that have many unique characteristics that you would expect from the world's leading glassmaker Corning. Serengeti 7000SS sunglasses with Corning lenses were marketed as "the first all weather, high performance sunglasses for skiing, sailing, and extreme exposure conditions with photochromatic, Vermillion double gradient mirror and anti-reflection coated lenses." Marketing literature from the period goes on to note that "their built-in Spectral Control filters sharpen images for extraordinary visibility and eye comfort in all daylight weather conditions", and they provide "extra high contrast in low, flat light, haze, rain or snow; in bright sunlight, the photochromatic lenses darken for superb glare protection, vision, and comfort, significantly cutting eye fatigue." Vintage Serengeti Vermillion sunglasses with real Corning scratch resistent, gound, and polished glass lenses are rare, and none are more desirable than the red lenses in these vintage Serengetis. They are an interpretation of the classic aviator style and sized for men and women, with frame measuring approximately 5.25" temple to temple and lenses measuring approximately 2.25" x 2.0" at the widest point. The inside of one ear stem is marked Serengeti Eyewear 5304J, the inside of the other stem is marked Corning Optics, and one ear pad is marked Frame Japan.
