Vintage Carrera Porsche Design 5623 96 sunglasses feature a sleek matte black Carrera Austrian frame and 2 complete sets of interchangeable Carrera PD lenses in very rare colors of a brown - rose gradient and purple gradient. You'll have seen vintage Carrera Porsche Design 5623 96 sunglasses being worn by celebrities such as Brad Pitt and in widespread fashion at sporting events around the world including NASCAR and Formula 1. The brown-rose gradient lenses are brown at the top shading to rose at the bottom, while the purple gradient lenses shade from purple at the top to more clear at the bottom. Both lens sets were produced in only small quantities and typically only available as a special order from Carrera. The center hinge raises to allow the interchangeable lenses to insert onto the frame via small prongs, and then the center hinge clamps down to keep the lenses securely in place. Carreras use of an advanced plastic called optyl in the 1980s allowed for the introduction of these moderately oversized aviator style sunglasses which would have been prohibitively heavy in glass, lightweight yet retaining excellent optical properties. The unisex Carrera 5623 96 frame measures approximately 5.5" temple to temple, and the lenses measure approximately 2.675" x 2.125" at the widest points. Carrera Porsche Design along with the PD logo is laser etched on the left lens of both lens sets, and one ear stem is impressed with the unique serial number and marked Made in Austria 5623 96 130 and the other stem is marked Porsche Design by Carrera along with the US patent number impressed on the ear pad. The spare lenses are stored in a felt pouch inside the included black hard sided Carrera Porsche Design case, part of a fine collection of vintage Carrera sunglasses in Malibu, CA.
